According to Odd Reidar Humlegård at Utrykningspolitet, too many people ignore the cell phone ban while driving and he promises that there will be more police controls next year. He wants an end to all these talkative, inattentive drivers who at times prevent ambulances from reaching patients in time.

«We still think there are too many who talk on the cell without using a hands-free,» Humlegård said to the radio channel Kanal 24.

Hans Martin Aase, leader of Ambulanseklubben (ambulance organization) in Oslo, is one of people who daily have problems with people’s illegal cell phone use.

«It has been many near-accidents because of drivers who have cut in right in front of us without looking,» Aase said. «They expose both themselves and others for danger.»

Humlegård intend to crack down on cell phone users.

«We have reacted to more instances this year than last year and we are going to continue this control activity next year as well.»

More than 2600 persons have been fired for illegal cell phone use, an increase of 42 percent compared to last year.
