The Norwegian Federation for Animal Protection in Nordland wants the sale of
animal sex toys banned.
«The Norwegian Federation for Animal Protection works actively to ban sexual
relations with animals in Norway. Because of this, the organization in
Nordland has written a letter to Kondomeriet, where the business is asked to
remove all sex toys in the shape of animals,» stated the Norwegian
Federation for Animal Protection in Nordland in a press release issued
Tuesday.
Unfortunate signal
«Through the promotion and sale of such
articles, Kondomeriet presents animals as sexual objects for people and
contributes to generalize and downplay a serious problem,» writes the
organization.
The organization claims the sale of such items sends an «unfortunate signal.»
Tasteless
«Both the product and the marketing is tasteless and
morally improper. The items are, according to Kondomeriet’s own advertising,
directed against stag parties and bachelors. The advertisement appears as an
invitation to and trivializing a serious problem regarding sexual relations
with animals.»
Good business
However, sex toys are good business. Kondomeriet
sold for NOK 36.6 million (USD 5.7 million) in 2003.
«The market is far from satisfied,» said Bente Helstad, manager of
Konsomeriet, to TV 2 Nettavisen in January of this year. «I think Norwegians
will continue to enjoy such joys.»
