TERROR ARRESTS IN DENMARK:

Swedish lead points to Al-Qaeda

02.04.04 12:33, ny 02.04.04 12:34

The name of the 38-year-old’s Swedish wife was found on a plane ticket at one of Osama bin Laden’s houses.

The 38-year-old, who was arrested with seven other persons in a police raid in Denmark earlier this week, is a member of a network which is being closely investigated by the Swedish security police. The 38-year-old is now held on remand, but the seven other persons have been released.

The 38-year-old, who is of Moroccan descent, apparently lived a law-abiding life. However, his wife has previously been connected to Al-Qaeda.

A CNN reporter found in the fall of 2001 an airline ticket in her name in a house which Osama bin Laden used in the Afghani town Jalalabad. In the same house, fake passports and receipts for the purchases of poison and nerve gas were also located at the house.

According to the Swedish paper Expressen, the woman said that she had no idea how the airline ticket ended up there.

The woman is born and raised in northern Sweden, and she was a punkette in her youth. Some years later, she shocked her family and close friends by converting to Islam, and she started to dress according to strict Muslim rules.

According to Expressen’s sources, the 38-year-old man is suspected of attempted murder and terror activities. Among other things, Danish police allegedly suspect that he is connected to the terror attack in Casablanca May 16 of last year where 44 persons were killed.
