Soon Norwegians can enjoy as many sausages as they like without feeling guilty, as young researchers have invented a new and healthy salmon sausage.
The sausage looks like any other sausage but contains salmon, cheese and herbs.«And it tastes delicious!» said Kristin Bjering Lømsland, one of the four inventors.
Student project
The new product is the result of a business plan competition initiated by the Agricultural University of Norway. «Four students from our class were joining a project about idea development. We wanted to try something new, different and simple and decided that a fish sausage would be perfect», said Lømsland.
The students tried four different versions for their sausages, using cod, coalfish, salmon and gravlax accompanied by different herbs.
«We thought the salmon version was the best and decided to go for that one», said the students.
Healthy concept
The four students want to present their salmon sausage as a healthy alternative to traditional fast food.«We intend to sell the sausage with dark bread and healthy trimmings», said Lømsland.
The sausage is not on the market yet and the student with the secret recipe is on holiday. However, the sausage will be produced from the autumn.
The students have started the hunt for investors who want to make and sell the salmon sausages.
«We were thinking about petrol stations, as the salmon sausage would represent something different there. And it would of course be great if we could make the salmon sausage available in supermarkets as well», said Lømsland.
